Our CEO attended the Maine International Film Festival (MIFF) which kicked off with a vibrant opening night, setting the tone for ten days of cinematic celebration. Attendees, including local and international guests, enjoyed perfect weather and delectable food, thanks to the efforts of Mike Perreault, the Executive Director of the Maine Film Center. The festival began with the premiere of Lost on a Mountain in Maine, produced by Sylvester Stallone’s Balboa Productions.

This adaptation of Donn Fendler’s beloved children’s book was met with enthusiasm by a full house. On the second day, Maria Kristu: The Buumba Story wowed audiences, reinforcing the festival’s commitment to showcasing diverse narratives. Throughout the festival, a wide array of films captivated audiences. Highlights included Charlie Says by Mary Harron, offering a feminist take on Charles Manson's first victims, and Kneecap from Ireland, known for its challenging dialects. American Psycho also stood out for its exceptional cast and twist ending. Films like Oceans Are The Real Continents used unique storytelling methods, such as puppetry, to explore a Cuban couple’s dreams of emigration, while the Rwandan film Igihuku tackled themes of grief and religion in the genocide's aftermath.

The Bride told the poignant story of a young girl forced into marriage, thwarting her dreams of attending medical school. Social events and after-parties provided ample opportunities for filmmakers and attendees to connect and share experiences. As a juror, I was honored to join Seth Kim, Sian Evans, and Mike Perreault in the awards deliberations, leading to the announcement of the winners during the closing ceremony. The festival successfully celebrated storytelling through film, fostering a community of creativity and connection. MIFF owes its success to the dedication of its organisers and the passionate filmmakers who brought their work to life. As the curtain falls on this year's edition, the festival’s impact is evident in its ability to inspire and connect, leaving attendees eagerly anticipating next year’s event.

FootageFest 2024

FootageFest is a yearly conference in Hollywood bringing together footage industry professionals from around the world. Everyone in the industry that touches third-party content at all is invited into the circle: “Users” are not only made up of researchers and clearance folks but writers, directors, producers and editors. Likewise, “Providers” are not just made up of stock footage professionals, but TV and film studio licensing reps, production companies, independent shooters, and news and viral video agencies.

Growing exponentially every year, FootageFest continues to attract dozens of niche footage libraries, hundreds of archive and clearance professionals, producers, studio licensing reps, and regional footage research reps from Toronto, Mexico City, New York, as well as across the Atlantic – from the U.K., Ireland and, yes, The Middle East. No region is too small; no language is too complex – FootageFest unites all of us to learn, discuss, challenge, and celebrate this amazing industry we have all made our home.

FootageFest is back, live and in-person. Saturday Sept 30th at The El Portal Theatre in Hollywood.
